Focus on Your Energy, Not Your Age

I play golf with a lively 79 year old woman. She's amazing. But one thing I pointed out to her is that she always talks about how she'll have to slow down when she turns 80 in a few months. I asked her what her doctor said about continuing to play golf. He told her that she's healthy and could continue on--and if she felt tired not to golf as much during the week (she golfs 3 times a week). Otherwise she's got a clean bill of health to go and enjoy herself. So I asked her why she's so focused on limiting herself. To me, limiting thoughts limit your lifestyle. She explained that she sees other women her age (who don't do as much), slowing down and staying home. I told her, "That's not you, that's not your tribe!"

One of my other golf partners is 78 years young. We never speak of age. He's constantly on the go and his golf game gets better each week. He brings me Chinese red dates to snack on at the golf course and tells me how he feels they give him more energy and I better watch out (interpret that as you will!). We laugh and then he hits a super-long drive and he floors the pedal on the golf cart and we go racing off. He's not at all focused on the limitations of age and I see him continually improving in golf--and in life.

There's the old saying "You're as young as you feel." I think that has everything to do with the energy you're creating in and around your life. Do the things that bring you joy, be around the people who feel like sunshine.

Find your focus and live a life that lights you up!
