The Unexpected Turn

I was complimenting a photographer friend on a great image he'd recently captured. He mentioned how he walked around a bend in the path and there was this beautiful scene waiting to be taken. His comments reminded me of a time I found a great scene because of an unexpected turn I took.

The unexpected turn is when you often find the greatest of opportunities--or the best shot. I remember photographing a sunset over the ocean. Then I turned around and saw the magnificent colors the sunset was making against the clouds and the palm trees behind me. That was a lesson to always look for the bigger picture--because sometimes the view you're focusing on is far too limited.
