Stop Being So Practical

This morning I was online ordering a new signature logo. With all the happy changes going on in my life, I wanted a fresher look for business and personal use. As I reviewed all the design options, I tossed out one or another because they were too fancy, too unreadable, too swirly, too bold... But I knew I wanted something different, fun, and uplifting (think of Oprah's signature logo).

So I got up to fix myself a cup of coffee, came back to my desk to re-review the options and then it hit me.

"Girl, what are you doing? Get the fun, fancy logo. Quit being so practical!"

So I ordered it up. I'll get it in a few days. Can't wait to see what the designer sends me!

I also recently had to order some new comfy casual shoes. I have plantar fasciitis and my foot specialist said I really needed a better pair of shoes with more structure. (Who knew Skechers were so bad?) So I went to a store, found a great pair then went online to buy an additional pair in a similar style.

I found a great pair but the color wasn't my normal tan or gray. They were a steel blue. I kept putting them in my cart and taking them out. I rationalized that they "wouldn't go with everything."

Then I realized what I was doing and said, "Who cares??" We should all be at the age or stage where we do what we do because it's a choice made in our own favor.

My new shoes arrived and I and my feet are so happy!

While doing a bit of shopping may not seem all that life-changing, it's the premise behind the process. Creating little pockets of happiness in whatever you're doing can lead to larger levels of energy and sunshine in your life.

Start making more decisions based on what will bring you joy.

I'm not advocating to throw all care, caution, and responsibility to the wind. But it's essential to take time for yourself and not worry what others will think or whether the shoes will match. As we've all probably experienced, life is too short and unexpected.

Stop being so practical.

Stop overthinking.

Stop justifying what you do.

Say what needs to be said.

Take inspired action.

Trust your instincts and intuition.

Make every moment matter.

Start living a life that lights you up!
